The Duluth-Superior Symphony
Orchestra's "Music to You" series will present "The Music and
Culture of Latin America" on Saturday, February 16, at 11 a.m. The
35-minute concert features the duo of Nixon Bustos on string bass and Melanie
Sever on flute. Their performance will take audience members on a tour through
Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Cuba and Venezuela. A slide show will
accompany the performance and presentation. Audience members will learn about
traditional Latin rhythms and have the opportunity to play various folk
percussion instruments. Those attending will also be invited to try out Latin
American dance steps such as the Argentinian Tango, the Colombian Cumbia, and
the Brazilian Samba.
