The 1998 film version of "Les
Miserables" will be shown on Tuesday, February 12, at 6:30 p.m. Victor
Hugo's great novel of revenge and redemption is brought to life by the artistry
of director Billie August. Liam Neeson stars as Jean Valjean, the convict
transformed by a single act of mercy. Uma Thurman is Fantine, the vulnerable
prostitute who begs Valjean to raise her only child, Cosette (Claire Danes),
and Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush is the obsessed policeman determined to send
Valjean back to prison. USA Today's reviewer called the movie "handsomely
mounted, strikingly photographed and exquisitely acted." In English; please
note that this is not the musical.
